If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required.

It is important to make this initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
Some travel vaccines are ordered on a private prescription and these incur a charge over and above the normal prescription charge. This is because not all travel vaccinations are included in the services provided by the NHS.

Fees for Non NHS Work and Frequently asked Questions:
Not all services performed by our clinicians are covered by the NHS. When patients require non-NHS services, a Private Fee will be charged. In general, fees must be paid in full before any private work is carried out.
All non-NHS forms and requests should be given in writing to our admin team. No GP appointment is necessary. We will contact you if an appointment is needed once the Doctor has reviewed the paperwork.
Surely GPs are already being paid so why are fees charged?
In recent years more and more organisations have been involving doctors in a wide range of non-NHS work. This is not funded by the NHS, therefore GPs have to charge a fee to cover their time.
So, do GPs have to do non-NHS work for their patients?
With certain limited exceptions, your Doctor does not have to carry out non-NHS work. Our GPs will always attempt to assist their patients with the completion of forms and letters when required.
Why does it sometimes take my GP a long time to complete my letter/form?
Time spent doing this takes GPs away from the medical care of their patients. Our GPs already have a heavy workload. Duties relating to direct patient care will always take priority over private work.
I only need a signature, why is there an issue?
A doctor can only sign what they know to be true. In order to complete even the simplest of forms the doctor might have to read a patients’ entire medical record.
What will I be charged?
Suggested rates and the cost of each service will generally reflect the amount of work and time involved. Urgent requests may mean that a doctor has to make special arrangements to process the form quickly and this may cost more.
How long does the surgery need for the completion of reports, forms and letters?
We ask for 4 weeks’ notice. Where a patient has an urgent request this should always be explained to the receptionist who will note the urgency. It may not always be possible to process a request faster since any clinically urgent work will always take precedent.

Cervical screening, or the “smear test”, is a routine health check that identifies potentially harmful cells and changes on the cervix. Cervical screening is not a test for cancer but catching any changes early can reduce your risk of developing cervical cancer. Cervical cancer kills two women every day. Regular screenings can help reduce that number, which is why it’s so important you attend your screening when invited.
Our nurses are trained to do all they can to put you at ease during your appointment and are on hand to answer any questions or concerns you may have. However, whether you attend your screening or not, is ultimately your choice.
